Huichol Yarn Art - The Sacred Deer 12”x12” from Nayarit, Mexico
The shamans are medicine men and bring offerings to the gods. Deer are sacred to the Huichol. They are considered to be spirit guides, messengers and guardians. The drum is used in ceremonies to communicate with the gods. Candles represent the sacred gift of light from the Sun and Fire god. The prayer arrow is a sacred offering to express gratitude. Curly lines represent the vine of life. Muvieri is the shaman’s wand used to communicate between nature and spirit worlds.
Yarn paintings consist of yarn pressed into wood coated with wax.
The Huichol are an indigenous people who mostly live in the mountainous areas of northern Jalisco and Nayarit in north central Mexico.
