This piece features many of the sacred symbols of the Huichol people. Gourds are used to illustrate what is desired to the gods. Serpents guard the corn and peyote from pests. Candles represent the sacred gift of light from the Sun and Fire god. Fire is a treasured gift from the gods. Fire is believed to be the Huichol’s eye into the future. Curly lines represent the vine of life. Muvieri is the shaman’s wand used to communicate between nature and spirit worlds.
Yarn paintings consist of yarn pressed into wood coated with wax.
